Clinical psychologist Inner West
As a clinical psychologist based in the Inner West, I work with adults and adolescents experiencing a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties — including anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, stress, and relationship issues.
My approach is grounded in warmth, curiosity, and collaboration. I draw on evidence-based therapies such as:
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)
Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT)
Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR Therapy)
Schema therapy
Mindfulness-based approaches
Every person’s experience is unique, so therapy is tailored to meet your individual needs and goals.

My practice in the Inner West of Sydney provides a calm and confidential space where you can work through difficult feelings, life transitions, and long-standing concerns with care and professional guidance.
I also offer online psychology sessions for those further afield or looking for extra convenience.
I provide counselling in the Inner West for a range of concerns, including:
Anxiety and panic
Depression and low mood
Trauma and post-traumatic stress
Grief and loss
Relationship and family challenges
Work-related stress and burnout
Together, we can explore what’s holding you back and work toward meaningful change at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
EMDR therapy Inner West Sydney
For those recovering from trauma or distressing life events, EMDR can be a powerful tool for healing.
EMDR (eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing) helps the brain reprocess painful memories, reducing their emotional intensity and allowing you to move forward with greater ease.
As a trained EMDR therapist, I offer this approach in a structured and compassionate way, ensuring that your safety and readiness guide the process.

Inner West psychology Sydney FAQs
How much does a psychologist cost in the Inner West?
At Deep Well Psychology, session fees reflect the high level of professional training and care provided.
Your appointment is charged as a simple flat fee of $250 for a 50-minute session. You may be eligible for the Australian Government’s mental health care plan, which will reduce the cost of up to ten sessions per year.
The current Medicare rebate is $145.25 and requires a referral from your GP.
Do I need a referral to see a psychologist in NSW?
No, you don’t need a referral to make an appointment with a psychologist in the Inner West. You can book directly with Deep Well Psychology for convenience or confidentiality. However, if you want to claim Medicare rebates, you’ll need to obtain a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP first.
What is the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist?
The main difference lies in training and treatment focus:
A psychologist (like me) is trained in human behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and evidence-based therapies. Psychologists use talk therapy and counselling to help people manage mental health challenges, build resilience, and improve quality of life.
A psychiatrist, on the other hand, is a medical doctor who can prescribe medication and typically focuses on diagnosing and treating more severe or complex mental health conditions.
At Deep Well Psychology, I provide therapy and counselling in the Inner West of Sydney that focuses on helping you understand and manage your emotions and thoughts through practical, psychological tools. When needed, we can collaborate with your GP or psychiatrist to ensure comprehensive care.
What can I expect in my first session with a psychologist?
Your first session at Deep Well Psychology is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and discuss what has brought you to therapy. We will talk about your goals, background, and current challenges. Together, we’ll begin to develop a shared understanding of what’s happening and how therapy can help. There’s no pressure, just a calm, supportive conversation focused on your wellbeing.
How do I know if I need to see a psychologist?
You might benefit from seeing a psychologist if you’re struggling with persistent stress, anxiety, low mood, relationship issues, or difficulty coping with life’s demands. You don’t have to be in crisis to start therapy, it can also be a space for growth, self-awareness, and learning new ways to manage thoughts and emotions more effectively.
What’s the difference between a psychologist and a counsellor?
While both psychologists and counsellors provide emotional support, psychologists have advanced training in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health conditions. At Deep Well Psychology, Simon Wegman is a clinical psychologist with postgraduate qualifications and experience in evidence-based therapies such as CBT and ACT. This allows me to offer a more in-depth and scientifically informed approach to therapy and counselling in Sydney’s Inner West.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Everything you discuss in your sessions is confidential. Your privacy is protected by strict professional and ethical guidelines. Information is only shared with others (such as your GP or another health provider) if you provide written consent, or if there is a serious risk of harm to yourself or others, as required by law.
Do I need a referral to see a psychologist?
No referral is required to book an appointment. However, if you visit your GP for a Mental Health Care Plan, you may be eligible for Medicare rebates for up to 10 sessions per calendar year with a clinical psychologist, either with me in the Inner West or online. Go here to help you understand how this process works.
Do you offer online therapy sessions?
Yes. Deep Well Psychology provides both in-person sessions in Newtown, Sydney’s Inner West, and online therapy for clients who prefer the convenience or comfort of meeting from home. Online sessions are just as effective and are conducted via secure video platforms that maintain your privacy and confidentiality.
How long does therapy usually take?
The number of sessions varies depending on your goals and the nature of your concerns. Some people find a few sessions of focused counselling helpful for short-term issues, while others benefit from longer-term therapy for deeper or recurring patterns. I’ll discuss your needs with you and create a plan that suits your pace and priorities.
What types of therapy do you use?
I use evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT), and schema therapy. These approaches are adapted to suit your personality, values, and goals, ensuring that therapy feels meaningful and relevant to you.
